Billing and Revenue

Neuropsychological/psychological evaluation has always been a multifaceted procedure; however, under the old CPT® codes, several key aspects that we’ve always had to do as part of an evaluation (e.g., managing patient behaviors, checking in with our technicians to review test data and modify batteries, feedback delivery) were unbillable services in which we were "giving our time away". The new CPT® testing codes ensure that we can now fully bill for the multiple, complex services that a neuropsychological/psychological evaluation entails for reimbursement purposes, but with a catch.

Namely, the level of detail needed for our supporting documentation has increased considerably and now requires far more granular detail regarding actual start/stop times of individual services that comprised the total evaluation time. Based on current national guidelines, this detailed time documentation is not optional/encouraged, but rather specifically required for compliance purposes if a psychologist is audited. ClinicalDecisionTracker (CDT) is a novel and convenient tool that readily provides this critical, detailed information for documentation purposes with tremendous ease. All the user has to do is select the service they’re engaging in and start the timer. With the click of a button CDT accurately records start/stop times, automatically calculates evaluation times, and converts total times into the correct units for each respective CPT® code used; thus, saving the psychologist from having to spend excessive time documenting services via other means (e.g., paper and pencil).

CDT is a tool designed by psychologists for psychologists that can be easily integrated into one’s practice to maximize billing and produce all required documentation for self-protection during an audit.
